Our Services

Thomasville Humane is much more than just an animal shelter. We provide a number of services to the local community to help pets live happier, healthier lives. We also offer services that help the community at large, such as temporarily housing lost pets and scheduling visits to local nursing homes. You can learn more about our services below.

  • Thomasville Humane uses guidelines for Target Zero to minimize the number of animals that enter our shelter. These problem solving techniques help the public deal with family pet issues instead of surrendering the pet to shelter care. We engage volunteers and staff to counsel pet owners on how to work with and understand their pets.

  • Tailored to our community’s senior citizens, Thomasville Humane visits several of our local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The residents and the animals benefit from the social interaction alike. These visits always create a sense of emotional well-being and are very well received by the residents, even those suffering from conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, and autism. If you are interested in scheduling a visit to your facility, please contact us.

  • Often called stray or feral cats, community cats are abundant and problematic in Thomas County. Our programs humanely trap community cats so that they can be sterilized and vaccinated before being returned to the spot where they were picked up. This proven technique decreases the community cat population problem in our community.

If you have a community cat issue, Thomasville Humane rents humane cat traps for a $70 refundable deposit.

  • Every animal in our care is scanned for a microchip and searched for other forms of identification.

    Lost Pets

  • We understand that sometimes pet owners can no longer keep their pets. If you decide to find a new home for your pet, first talk to trusted friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors, and your veterinarian - as they may know someone who might be interested in taking your pet. If that is unsuccessful and you wish to surrender your pet, complete the Owner Surrender Application.
