Adoption fees at Thomasville Humane usually range from $50 - $200.
Some special needs or longer-stay animals have reduced adoption fees, or no adoption fee at all. Some animals in our care have had their adoption fees sponsored by an individual in our community who fell in love with them but couldn't adopt themselves. They already paid the fee so that you could take home that animal at no cost.
For Non-Legacy Animals:
$50* for Adult Cat $100* for Kitten
$100* for Adult Dog $200* for Puppy
*Plus additional medical fees for some specialty-care animals, which will be disclosed and discussed if applicable.
For Legacy Animals:
Thomasville Humane employs a sliding fee scale for all adoptions, as well as a Legacy Pricing model. This means that while most adoption fees fall within our “normal” range (free to $200), there are higher adoption fees for highly desirable animals, or what we call "Legacy Animals." Legacy Animal labelling is based on the animal's breed, age, temperament, and other factors. We know that Legacy Animals will have a short length of stay, despite their elevated fee. This additional revenue is used to offset the costs of care for the longer-term residents, creating a legacy of lifesaving for these highly desirable pets.

Adoptions fees include spay or neuter services, microchipping, required vaccinations, deworming (if necessary), valuable take-home information - and a new best friend!
-
Sponsoring a dog or cat is a great way to improve the lives of these animals when you can’t actually live with them! Sponsors can make monthly donations to help provide continuing care or cover the adoption fees for a particular animal when someone else adopts.
We encourage you to drop by the shelter during normal business hours to visit with your “sponsoree”!

Monetary donations are always greatly needed and appreciated, as is food for puppies and kittens. Our Amazon Wish List of other donations currently needed can be found here. Plus, there are other creative ways to help!

Yes, Thomasville Humane is a “no-kill” shelter as defined in the animal welfare industry, meaning every dog and cat in our care that can be saved, is saved.
“No-kill” facilities, like Thomasville Humane, are do not euthanize healthy and treatable animals, but only euthanize as a last resort for terminally ill animals or those considered dangerous to public safety - never for space, funding, time, or convenience.

Read our suggestions on our Lost Pets page, including reporting to relevant “lost and found” social media pages. As of January 1, 2023, we are no longer providing animal control services for Thomas County. If your pet is lost, please contact the sheriff's department and the Thomas County Board of Commissioners.

We love using photos of our volunteers and participants in our social media and other marketing! But we want to make sure you are ok with that first. If you didn’t complete the release at the event, please fill out the Media Waiver form and return it to us. Parents must sign the release for children under 18. Then we will be able to use all those adorable photos of you and your family with our amazing animals!

No. Effective January 1, 2023, we are no longer providing animal control services and therefore no longer have legal authority to impound stray animals. If we took in animals that are considered strays, we would put ourselves at risk for civil suits, fines and penalties, and ultimately, loss of shelter licensure.
Per Georgia law, local governments must provide animal control services - either through a municipal department or a contracted vendor. Thomas County is now providing animal control services - such as accepting stray animals and responding to citizen complaints about loose, lost, abandoned, neglected, abused, or dangerous animals – through Thomas County Animal Services.
For more information, please contact Thomas County Animal Services at 229-225-4151 or Thomas County at 229-225-4100.
