We are committed to ensuring the humane care of animals in partnership with our community

About Us

Who We are

Thomasville Humane is the largest nonprofit, no-kill shelter in all of Southwest Georgia. Since our founding in 1970, our mission has been to ensure the humane treatment of animals in partnership with our community. Each year, we help and find homes for more than 1,000 animals, while providing affordable services to promote responsible pet ownership.

In addition to our local mission of supporting people and pets of Thomasville and Thomas County, we serve 44 municipal shelters across the State of Georgia through our Shelter Collaborative program, in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society. By providing these shelters with essential resources, education and funding, we help them improve their lifesaving efforts, creating a lasting impact on thousands of dogs and cats throughout the state.

We invite you to get involved in our lifesaving mission through adopting, fostering, donating, and volunteering.

community

We are proud to partner with a variety of local and national organizations to create a more compassionate community. Whether it’s Coins for Critters, educational speaking engagements, pet medical expenses, or access to information and resources, our staff is here to help.

our goal

Placing every adoptable pet in our care in a loving home is our goal. Our animals are frequent guests at at community events like the Rose Show Festival, Wildlife Arts Festival, and Victorian Christmas. We host adoption events and transport animals to partner adoption events where we raise awareness for our cause and get the tails wagging!

More About Us

Thomasville Humane is the largest non-profit animal welfare organization in southwestern Georgia. Our limited admission animal shelter provides a temporary home and services to abandoned, homeless, and abused pets.

A group of local animal welfare advocates founded and incorporated our Thomasville animal shelter in 1970. Today, we carry on their mission and are committed to ensuring the humane care of the animals in partnership with our community.

Because we are independent, we rely on individual contributions, grants, and fundraising efforts. Beyond monetary contributions, the Thomasville Humane also relies on volunteers to continue serving the community.

Thanks to the support of our community, we help thousands of animals every year. Because of the community’s help, we have prevented animals from being euthanized and instead helped them find good, loving homes. We work hard to be the area’s leading advocate for animal welfare. Please help us continue these programs with your financial support!

Thomasville Humane received its exemption from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in January 1978 and maintains registration as a Charitable Organization in Georgia through the Secretary of State, Professional Licensing Boards and Securities Division.
