Creating Impact Every Day through
Humane Education

Our humane education programs are designed to foster empathy, responsibility, and a deep understanding of animal welfare. Through interactive lessons, workshops, and community outreach, we inspire children and adults alike to build a more compassionate community for our pets.

Donuts with the Director

Led by our Executive Director, Mr. Chandler Giddes, Donuts with the Director is a new ongoing series with the goal of providing a platform for local animal welfare groups, animal advocates and other members of our community to come together to seek solutions and build more effective systems regarding animal services in Thomas County.

Session 1: “Stray Support” - August 19th, Chamber of Commerce.

Session 2: “TNR Truths” - September 12th, 6 p.m. at Southern Regional Technical College.

Our first sessions were a resounding success - thank you for your support and interest! Download the materials here: Session 1 and Session 2. And check out the TTE Session 1 and Session 2 articles!

We aim to Create Impact Every Day and we invite you to join us!

What to Expect

Public forum, structured dialogue, constructive conversations, community education and empowerment, and, of course, delicious sweet treats.

We know the current situation involving animals in our community has been difficult to navigate. Many are wondering:

  • What do I do when I find a stray dog or cat?

  • What do I do if I need to rehome my pet?

  • What services are available to me and by which organization?

  • What are the current laws regarding animals in Thomas County?

  • What does responsible pet ownership look like?

  • And more!

Our hope is to answer these questions, provide some clarity to common myths and misunderstandings, and to seek community-based solutions to address gaps in our current system.

Who Should Attend

Whether you are a local animal advocate or just a concerned community member, we encourage you to attend. This public forum is open to any local residents with a commitment to effect positive change for our community via productive and cordial conversation. All of us share responsibility in the problem and all of us have a part in the solution.

Youth Humane Education:
Building compassionate leaders of Tomorrow

Our youth humane education programs are designed to nurture kindness, empathy, and respect for animals in our community. Through engaging activities, hands-on learning, and real-life experiences, we teach young people the importance of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

Our programs empower children and teens to make compassionate choices and become advocates for animals in their communities. From classroom visits and educational workshops to volunteer opportunities, we provide the tools and knowledge to inspire a lifelong commitment to kindness and ethical treatment of animals.

  • Paw-sitive Reading with Pets: A Tail-Wagging Way to Boost Literacy

Join our Paw-sitive Reading with Pets program, where young readers improve their literacy skills in a fun and relaxed environment. Children are invited to read aloud to our friendly, trained animals, who provide a calm, non-judgmental audience. This unique experience helps boost confidence, improve reading fluency, and foster a love for books.

Our furry friends create a soothing atmosphere that encourages kids to open up and enjoy the magic of storytelling. It’s a win-win: children develop their reading skills, and our animals bask in the joy of being loved and cared for.

  • Humane Classroom Visits: Connecting Hearts and Minds Through Animal Exposure

Our humane classroom visits bring the transformative power of animals directly into the classroom. Through these interactive sessions, students get hands-on exposure to animals, learning about their needs, behaviors, and the importance of kindness towards all living creatures. These visits are designed to foster empathy, reduce anxiety, and create a positive, nurturing environment where students can thrive.

Research shows that interaction with animals can have profound mental health benefits, such as reducing stress, improving mood, and promoting emotional well-being. Our visits are more than just educational; they offer a therapeutic experience that enhances students' mental health, encouraging mindfulness and compassion.

By integrating animals into the learning experience, we help students build emotional resilience, foster positive social interactions, and develop a deeper connection to the world around them.

  • Work Based Learning

Thomasville Humane is proud to partner with Thomas County Central High School in their work-based learning program.

We offer students a unique and impactful opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to a meaningful cause. Students gain hands-on, practical experience with animals, learning about their care, behavior, and needs. Participants develop skills in animal handling, health assessment, and welfare, which are valuable for those interested in veterinary science, animal care, or related fields.

Our students develop soft skills, such as as communication, empathy, and teamwork as they interact with staff, volunteers, and the public This enhances their ability to work effectively in diverse environments and manage real-world challenges.

By working in a humane society, students become more aware of the issues related to animal welfare and the importance of community involvement. This fosters a sense of social responsibility and encourages them to become active, informed members of their communities.

This event not only promotes charitable giving but also fosters teamwork and school spirit.

Each participating classroom will have a dedicated collection container where students can contribute their spare change, dollar bills, or any monetary donations. The classroom that collects the most money by the end of the drive will win a special prize—a pizza party with a visiting shelter animal! All money raised will directly benefit the animals at Thomasville Humane, providing them with the care, food, and medical attention they need.
